Assalammualaikum and good day everyone Today, i would like to present about environmental education and awareness Based on The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN, 1970) Environmental education is a process that allows people to explore environmental issue engage in problem-solving and take action to improve the environment It is also the process of recognizing values and concept in order to develop skill and attitude necessary to understand and appreciate the interrelatedness among men is culture and surroundings It is also requiring a practice in decision making and self-formulation of a code of behaviour about issues concerning environmental quality What is an objective for environmental education? Based on UNESCO (1975) Objective for environmental education is To foster clear awareness of and concerned about economic Social Political and ecological independent in urban and rural areas To provide every person with opportunities to acquire the knowledge values attitudes Commitment and skill Needed to protect and improve the environment To create new patterns of behaviour of individuals groups and society as a whole towards the environment When we discuss this environmental education issue We should explain it components too they are Awareness sensitivity knowledge and understanding to the environment and environmental challenges Attitude of concern for the environment and motivation to improve or maintain environmental quality Skills to identify and help resolve environmental challenges Participation in activities that lead to a resolution of environmental Challenges and what about Environmental Awareness? Environmental awareness is to understand the fragility of our environment and the importance of its protection Promoting environmental awareness is an easy way to become an environmental steward and participate in creating a brighter future for our children Environmental education awareness and participation The most important part realise education and awareness is a participation of committee members From the community development perspective there is a specific theory in explaining a community participation that theory known as the “ladder of participation” by Arnstein (1969). Arnstein described the ladder of participation into eight steps one Manipulation and Therapy Both are non-participative and their aim is to cure or to educate a community Second Informing a most important first step to legitimate participation but no channel for feedback third Consultation Still a legitimate step but just a window dressing ritual fourth Placation that allows committee to advice or plan but retains for power holders the right to judge the legitimacy’s advice fifth Partnership Planning and decision-making responsibilities are shared through joint committees six Delegate power Community has a power to comfort accountability of the programme to them seventh Citizen control Committee has the entire job of planning policy making and managing a programme As a conclusion Environmental education and awareness is very important part to human daily life and for their future But must be operationalization by involving a community member from all level of planning and action This principals is a crucial part to make sure the objective of environmental education and awareness can be achieve and being part of sustainable development That’s all for today Thank you for your attention
