Doodling in Math Class: Binary Trees

OK, let’s say you’re me, and you’re in math class. You’re supposed to be learning about exponential functions, but you’re having trouble caring about exponential functions because, unfortunately, your math class is probably not terribly engaging. You’re supposed to be drawing and labeling some axes so that you can graph this y equals 2 to the x thing. And your teacher seems to think that drawing and labeling axes is the very essence of mathematics. But you’re bored and can’t help but wonder, why? So you do what any conscientious student would do in this situation and start doodling. And because you’re me, you like to play games with yourself…

Forest schools: A growing alternative for parents wanting less screen time for kids | ABC News

I think it’s a huge part of my role as a forest school leader is to support families to understand how diverse and fabulous this environment is. People are coming to me because they want to reconnect with nature, that’s a really innate part of who they feel that they want to be or they want their children to be. I think there’s all this research that shows that technology can be harmful for children and I think that people want to come back to basics and connect with what’s around them. We love it, it gives the kids a chance to play outside on actual trees and rocks and…

    Environmental Sciences at USM

We’re a department of environmental science and policy and so we offer two programs, one is Environmental Planning and Policy, the other is Environmental Science. and the premise is the people who go on to do planning and policy, need some basic environmental science, about which they’re doing planning and policy and similarly the people who are studying environmental science, well, environmental science takes place in the real world, and most of it is done in consequence of policy; Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, hazardous waste. So we kind of marry both of those with the basic sciences. With biology and chemistry and geology things like that. Most of…

    Camouflage: Animal Hide & Seek

Shh! We’re playing hide and seek! But, I can’t seem to find Squeaks. Can you? [Soft music playing] Hah! Found yah! [Giggles] Here at the fort, we’re pretty good at hide and seek. You know why? Because we’ve learned a lot of great tricks from nature! There are lots of kinds of animals that have their own kind of hide and seek — Some animals hide so they can sneak up on their prey– other animals hide so they don’t become dinner! Either way, these animals don’t hide behind curtains or under tables like we do when we want to play hide and seek — they hide in plain sight!…

Well, there — are now a handful of universities (that teach classes about weed). “Oak-sterdam” — is the first all-inclusive Cannabis college in America. After prop 64 has passed — what is… the legal landscape in California? It’s — not an accredited university. But for fifteen hundred and ninety five dollars —…

Around the world, governments have begun to acknowledge a powerful movement that has been dubbed the climate emergency.
